Building Healthier Communities
We follow an inspiring lead: the commitment of our own employees

Manulife employees are the cornerstone of many of our community efforts. Whether it’s swinging a hammer for Habitat for Humanity, running, walking or cycling to raise money for a good cause, or offering support to those in need, our employees bring a lot of heart to their communities.

To recognize their efforts, Manulife has a number of employee programs that provide funding to causes that are important to them. It’s our way to say thank you for helping to make our communities better places to live and work.

Helping Hands supports our employees’ volunteer efforts by providing $500 grants to charities where they volunteer 25 hours or more annually. In 2008, we issued close to $60,000 in Helping Hands grants.

PowerMatch is a program that supports employees’ fundraising efforts. Employees who collect pledges for a registered charity fundraising event (for example, Weekend to End Breast Cancer, Terry Fox Run, Run for the Cure, Manulife Walk for Memories), can apply for a matching donation up to $150. We issued more than $25,000 PowerMatch grants in 2008.

The Manulife United Way campaign supports the social needs of our communities through an employee match program. Employee, retiree and advisor donations to United Way are matched dollar for dollar to a maximum of $5,000. With the company’s matching donation included, employees in Canada contributed more than $3 million to their communities through the United Way campaign.
